Postdoctoral position is now available in the Pain Mechanisms Laboratory within the Department of Anesthesiology at Wake Forest University Medical School. Candidates should have a background in neuroscience or related field relevant to the study of the biology of pain. The position is funded for at least two years for a project studying cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in chronic neuropathic pain. The project focuses on the role of the endoplasmic reticulum stress response in the chronification of pain following nerve insults or tissue damage due to trauma, surgery or chemotherapy. This position is supported by NIH grants.
Education/Experience
PhD or equivalent in neurosciences or biology related areas required. Prior training in pharmacology, cell culture, confocal and fluorescent microscopy, and molecular biology techniques are preferred. Experience in animal behavior and genetics would be a plus. Successful applicants will be responsible for developing new approaches involving in vivo gene editing using cre/flox technology and single cell RNA sequencing. This position requires an individual with strong reading and writing skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to work on a team. The successful candidate will become a part of an interdisciplinary and collaborative group of preclinical and clinical research faculty within the Pain Mechanisms Lab focused on translational pain research.
Essential functions
- Performs cell preparations and cultures; maintains cell lines, treats, harvests, and analyzes cell cultures and/or suitable animal tissues, including human tissues.
- Conduct behavioral assessments in rodents
- Perform surgeries and postmortem tissue collection from rodents
- Performs analyses using molecular and biochemical techniques.
- Establishes database management system.
- Produces abstracts and manuscripts for publication and presentation at scientific meetings.
- Assists with preparation of grant applications.
- Assists in the development of new methodology in sample preparation, and analysis of samples for molecular and biochemical analyses.
- Instructs and trains other laboratory employees in the use of the laboratory instruments, equipment, and techniques.
- Coordinates with other researchers.
