Are you interested in research that is directly influenced by clinically important questions? Are you passionate about science and rigorous in the work you do?
Chronic pain affects millions of people; we want to understand why that is using clinically-informed basic science approaches.
We are aiming to recruit 1-2 postdoctoral research fellows to the lab of Dr. Vivianne Tawfik (tawfiklab.stanford.edu) in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative & Pain Medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine. We are particularly interested in examining the transition from acute to chronic pain using perioperative injury models, "visualizing pain" using advanced imaging techniques, and understanding the whole system immune response to injury using mass cytometry and complex mouse behavioral assays. We are fascinated by glia, the resident immune cells of the CNS, and want to determine how they may alleviate, or contribute to, pathological pain.
Candidates must have an MD and/or PhD in neuroscience, pharmacology, immunology or related field, with experience in rodent models. Experience with electrophysiology/calcium imaging, optogenetics, RNA sequencing or large data set analysis is preferred. The successful candidate should be able to work independently but be willing to collaborate with multiple research and clinical groups with our world-class institution. Ample opportunities for career development, mentorship and clinical exposure based on candidate interest.
Please submit a CV and cover letter to Dr. Tawfik, vivianne@stanford.edu
